Gold Prices Decline Amid Rising Dollar and Yields as US-Iran Talks Loom

Gold prices experienced further declines during U.S. trading on Tuesday, as a stronger dollar coupled with rising yields placed downward pressure on the metal. Spot gold dropped by 2%, reaching $4,724.31 per ounce around 12:28 p.m. EDT, marking its lowest level in over a week. Meanwhile, June delivery U.S. gold futures fell by 1.8% to $4,743.50.

The strengthening of the U.S. dollar made gold more expensive for investors using other currencies, while benchmark 10-Year U.S. Treasury yields increased by more than 1%. Bob Haberkorn, a senior market strategist at RJO Futures, noted that the combination of rising yields and a stronger dollar is negatively impacting gold prices. He also highlighted the influence of mixed signals regarding the situation in Iran, which has led to higher energy prices and further pressure on metal prices.

In addition to gold, other precious metals also saw declines. Spot silver decreased by 4% to $76.63 per ounce, platinum fell by 2.6% to $2,035, and palladium was down 0.6% at $1,538.78. The market remains on edge as President Donald Trump expressed reluctance to extend the ceasefire with Iran, indicating a readiness for military action if negotiations fail. Investors are also focused on the Senate Banking Committee's hearing regarding Kevin Warsh's confirmation as the new Fed chief, with expectations of increased market volatility as a result.
